The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering addresses the need for highly skilled professionals in both academic and industrial settings. Lakehead University's MSc in Mechanical Engineering (MSc-ME) program cultivates students' independent research skills by integrating coursework with structured research projects. This innovative program offers a distinctive curriculum designed to equip graduates with the tools to solve complex mechanical engineering problems encountered by industries and society. MSc-ME students enjoy advantages like small class cohorts, a collaborative atmosphere, and personalized mentorship from faculty.
The thesis track specifically enhances students' autonomous research capabilities, blending academic coursework with hands-on investigation. This pathway particularly suits those pursuing PhD studies or careers in industrial research and development. Full-time enrollment is mandatory for all thesis-based students.
Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, degree students must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent.
