The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University provides graduate research programs culminating in Master of Engineering (MEng) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees specializing in petroleum engineering, covering diverse areas such as:

offshore petroleum operations
safety, risk and environmental stewardship
reservoir analysis
drilling technologies
improved hydrocarbon recovery
natural gas systems (with emphasis on unconventional resources)
infrastructure reliability
subsea technologies
automation and measurement systems
Memorial's petroleum engineering program stands out by concentrating on offshore operations in extreme weather conditions. The curriculum prepares students to tackle emerging obstacles in extracting hydrocarbons from increasingly isolated and challenging locations like Arctic regions and deepwater sites.

The program prioritizes operational safety and risk assessment through fundamental coursework in safety protocols, risk analysis, and offshore environmental protection.

This interdisciplinary program is delivered by faculty experts in electrical systems, reservoir analysis, drilling methods, environmental engineering, risk assessment, and process engineering.

Typically completed in two years, the MEng program mandates students to finish four courses, a seminar component, and a research thesis.
