The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University provides graduate programs focused on thesis research, awarding Master of Engineering (MEng) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering. These programs cover specialized areas like hydrodynamics, marine structures, underwater vehicles, and ocean environmental engineering.
Memorial University's Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering program stands as Canada's sole offering in this field. Recognized for its distinctive methodology, varied research initiatives, and outstanding faculty featuring leading experts, the program provides graduate students access to a 58-meter towing tank and a structures lab equipped with cold rooms and advanced testing tools. Students also engage in fieldwork and research projects. Housed within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, the Ocean Engineering Research Centre (OERC) conducts research, development, and consulting across multiple ocean engineering sectors, including offshore petroleum and shipping. The OERC's work encompasses scale model experiments, numerical modeling, software development, and structural testing.
Typically completed in two years, the MEng program requires students to finish at least four courses, a seminar course, and a thesis.
