The Division of BioMedical Sciences (BMS) within the Faculty of Medicine oversees the Neuroscience graduate program, providing students with options to earn either a Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Students join a dynamic research environment, gaining neuroscience expertise through hands-on biomedical lab work, academic courses, seminar participation, and the yearly BioMedicine research symposium, complemented by various on-campus professional growth initiatives. The Faculty of Medicine facilitates a guest lecturer series, teaching assistant positions, institutional awards and funding, administrative assistance, and a specialized Office of Research & Graduate Studies focused on medical graduate student affairs. The Health Sciences Library is conveniently situated in the Health Sciences Centre, next to the Faculty of Medicine.
PhD – This thesis-driven doctoral program typically spans four years of full-time enrollment. Admitted students who meet or exceed academic standards while maintaining full-time status in the Faculty of Medicine receive guaranteed financial support for four years. Coursework is usually finished within the initial 1-2 years, with the remaining time dedicated to thesis research and development. All PhD candidates at Memorial University must complete comprehensive examinations by their seventh semester.
