This research-focused program mandates that students fulfill coursework and defend a thesis. The M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering can be pursued either full-time or part-time, with minimum requirements including four half-courses (three at the 700 level minimum, two bearing "MECHENG" codes). Candidates must submit a thesis showcasing independent research that demonstrates mechanical engineering proficiency, followed by an oral defense.
Full-time M.A.Sc. students must also complete four sessions of MECHENG 758 "Graduate Seminars in Mechanical Engineering". Additional information is available in the MECHENG 758 course listing.
The following are the minimum academic requirements for entry into graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or in a related discipline. Applicants from foreign institutions, must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related discipline. Admission is competitive; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Applicants are accepted only if a faculty member is willing to supervise them.
