An innovative combined program offered through collaboration between the Engineering and Health Sciences faculties, merging Electrical and Computer Engineering with biomedical concepts to power tomorrow's innovations. This Electrical and Biomedical Engineering discipline represents a rapidly expanding area focused on utilizing Electrical Engineering principles to address medical and biological challenges. It effectively connects the traditional divide between life sciences and engineering/physical sciences, creating interdisciplinary connections. Progress in biomedical research and technology, along with continuing discussions about Canada's healthcare system, has sparked significant societal and economic interest in advancing biomedical solutions. The Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences curriculum provides undergraduates with comprehensive training across both engineering and health sciences disciplines. After completing a shared first-year foundation, students can select either health sciences or engineering as their specialization beginning in year two.
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.
Admission to either the B.H.Sc. (Honours) Health, Engineering Science and Entrepreneurship (HESE) specialization or the B.Eng.BME Biomedical Engineering (BME) specialization requires successful completion of all non-elective Level I IBEHS courses with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0.
All students who successfully complete the first year of the program will have a space in one of the two degree options. As enrolment is limited in each of the two degree options (HESE or BME), where there is more demand than spaces, competition will be based on first-year academic achievement.
