The Music I program will temporarily stop accepting new applicants starting September 2024 while we redesign the curriculum. Students interested in music studies may apply to Humanities I and pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music instead. No auditions are necessary for this pathway. At the School of the Arts, we're transforming our approach to music education. Although we're pausing Music 1 admissions for September 2024, we remain dedicated to music education at McMaster and are actively revitalizing the program.
Our goal is to reshape the Music program to eliminate obstacles, reflect contemporary musical trends, and leverage McMaster's unique academic advantages.
Current Music students (including those in Music level 1 and degree programs like BMus, BMus in Music Cognition, BA in Music, and Combined Honours in Music with another subject) can complete their studies without disruption during this redesign period.
For prospective students, we offer a Bachelor of Arts with a music major option. This program covers music history, performance, and theory, with additional course options in music therapy, music cognition, conducting, and popular music, alongside electives from other fields.
This audition-free pathway opens music education to students with diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
