The Wind Band Music program offers both major and minor options within the Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. Students will explore diverse musical disciplines including Instrumental Ensemble performance, Aural and Keyboard Skills development, Music Theory fundamentals, specialized techniques for Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments, Choral and Band Techniques, Conducting, and Music Pedagogy. Teaching represents a profound vocation, and our mission is to equip you to become that unforgettable classroom educator who shapes young lives. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education curriculum, you'll gain the skills to inspire grades 7-12 students across various subjects with your enthusiasm for knowledge. The program features dual specialization - combining a major and minor - enabling you to tailor your academic journey according to your interests.
This comprehensive Secondary Education pathway incorporates two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) followed by a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT), with instruction typically focused in your major subject area. Designed as a standard four-year undergraduate program, it also accommodates those pursuing it as a post-degree qualification. Graduates will qualify for Alberta teacher certification upon successful program completion.
