Aspiring students passionate about music studies are invited to apply to Humanities I, where they can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music. This program doesn't require auditions. At our School of the Arts, we're transforming music education approaches. Although we've temporarily suspended admissions to the Music 1 program for September 2024, we remain dedicated to strengthening music education at McMaster.
We're focused on redesigning the Music program to eliminate obstacles, reflect contemporary musical trends, and leverage McMaster's unique advantages.
While we continue developing the revamped Music program, current students in Music level 1 and all Music degree tracks (including BMus, BMus(Music Cognition), BA in Music, and Combined Honours Degrees) can complete their studies without disruption.
Those considering music studies in the future may join our Bachelor of Arts program with a music concentration. Participants explore music history, performance, and theory, with opportunities to study music therapy, music cognition, conducting, and popular music, alongside electives from other fields.
This audition-free pathway opens music education to students with diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
McMaster's musical groups - including the concert band, choirs, percussion ensemble, and orchestra - will keep offering performance experiences to students university-wide.
