Cognitive Science, a branch of psychology, explores mental processes such as emotion, memory, creativity, and language. Linguistics focuses on analyzing language in all its aspects, covering natural language evolution, structure, and application. McMaster University combines these disciplines into a distinctive undergraduate offering: Cognitive Science of Language.
This program explores language representation and processing from both functional and neurobiological viewpoints, studying speech production, comprehension, and literacy skills across different age groups in native and second languages.
The curriculum also investigates typical and atypical language development, including childhood language disorders and language impairments resulting from strokes or traumatic brain injuries.
