Our Health, Aging & Society programs enable students to examine diverse subjects such as health determinants, wellness in later life, psychological wellbeing, substance use, and social aspects of aging. These undergraduate programs prepare students to critically assess healthcare availability, aging perspectives, and mental health challenges using social science frameworks.
Graduates from the Health, Aging & Society Department develop competencies in analytical thinking, communication, research interpretation, and specialized understanding of health and aging through a social science viewpoint. This encompasses theories about health disparities, healthcare structures, societal influences on aging populations, and the cultural dimensions of growing older.
Third-year students can participate in practical placements, collaborating with experts in their chosen field. The Aging and Society or Health and Society degrees can be paired with other Social Sciences or Humanities disciplines. Additionally, students may specialize in Mental Health and Addiction within either degree program.
These programs can be enhanced with various minor options or through a Mohawk College certificate. Admission to Health, Aging & Society programs is competitive, with published minimums not ensuring acceptance. Applicants may enter Health & Society I directly after secondary school or declare an Aging and Society/Health and Society major after first year for Level II studies.
