Chemistry plays a central role in creating many essential technologies we rely on daily, from boosting agricultural production to energy-efficient lighting solutions. Both academic and industrial chemistry are increasingly adopting sustainable practices guided by Green Chemistry's 12 principles. This involves designing inherently more efficient processes, utilizing renewable resources more frequently, choosing water as an eco-friendly solvent, reducing waste generation, and ensuring any waste produced is environmentally benign. The Honours Sustainable Chemistry program offers students a distinctive, research-driven education that combines chemistry studies with sustainability principles. It critically evaluates conventional chemical practices through a sustainability perspective, aiming to cultivate professionals capable of innovating greener chemical solutions. Participants can specialize in hands-on research, gaining access to cutting-edge laboratory equipment rivaling the best facilities nationwide.
