For outstanding students with exceptional skills in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, Laurier's Chemistry and Physics program offers an ideal opportunity. This program blends top elements from our Bachelor of Science (BSc) offerings in both Chemistry and Physics. Through classroom instruction and hands-on lab work, you'll develop a strong theoretical grounding in these disciplines.
Laurier's Chemistry and Physics program emphasizes studying materials' chemical and physical characteristics at both macroscopic levels (where dimensions are practically unlimited) and nanoscopic scales (ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers).
While classical mechanics typically explains material behavior at larger scales, quantum effects become significant at the nanoscale, often leading to dramatically different material properties. For instance, while gold in bulk form is non-reactive, gold nanoparticles have demonstrated catalytic capabilities in numerous chemical processes.
Students must have the following:
IB Baccalaureate Requirements

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Internet-based testing (TOEFL iBT): an overall score of 83 or higher with a minimum score of 20 in each component; Paper-based testing: 560 or higher.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - An academic score of 6.5 or higher with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) - 70 overall or higher (each band 60 or higher).
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) - 59 overall or higher.
Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) - Overall score of 176.
