Program Overview
The Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences' Division of Experimental Medicine provides a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Experimental Medicine (Thesis), an intensive research program focused on forward-thinking educational experiences. This program aims to develop students' expertise in research techniques, analytical reasoning, and academic writing, preparing them for advanced studies or professional careers.
Students may choose from these specialized tracks:
Bioethics specialization: Enables scholars to explore cutting-edge research on healthcare-related ethical dilemmas while gaining interdisciplinary insights from fields like jurisprudence, philosophy, and theology.
Digital Health Innovation specialization: Concentrates on clinical epidemiology fundamentals, AI in medicine, healthcare innovation, and practical data science applications, including advanced software for processing digital health and social information.
Environmental Studies specialization: Developed jointly with the Bieler School of Environment, this track examines the complex interplay of scientific, societal, legal, and ethical factors shaping environmental and sustainability challenges.
Applicants for the M.Sc. in Experimental Medicine must hold either an M.D. degree, a B.Sc. degree, or the equivalent. Candidates who hold only an undergraduate degree in the medical and allied sciences (B.Sc. degree or an M.D. degree), must apply to the M.Sc. program, unless they have an undergraduate CGPA of 3.5 or more out of a possible 4.0.
M.Sc. (Environment Option)
Although the requirements and application deadlines remain the same as the M.Sc. applicants wishing to apply to the Environment Option must submit additional documents that constitute their application to BOTH the Division of Experimental Medicine and the McGill School of Environment.
English Language Scores:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum acceptable scores are: The CBT is no longer being offered. CBT results will no longer be accepted as ETS no longer reports these results. N.B. an institutional version of the TOEFL is not acceptable. IBT (Internet-Based Test): 86 overall, no less than 20 in each of the four component scores.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): a band score of 6.5 or greater (Academic module).
Application Deadline: For Fall Term: April 15 and for Winter Term: Sept. 1.
