The Master's program in Architecture emphasizes understanding northern community requirements while adopting a holistic perspective on constructing systems suited for arctic environments. Key research areas for graduate studies encompass timber construction, climate-responsive design, and digital manufacturing, culminating in a final Thesis project.
This two-year curriculum maintains a strong emphasis on hands-on learning via design-build initiatives and community-focused projects. Studio specialization choices feature 'Architecture and Craft,' 'Indigenous Design,' or 'Community Development.' Students undertake two cooperative education terms, gaining experience in design firms across local, national, and global contexts.
The program aims to establish national prominence in Indigenous Design education at the graduate level. Indigenous perspectives and traditional knowledge are woven throughout the curriculum, taught through dedicated courses and community engagements. This professional degree equips students with the expertise to pursue architectural careers, with graduates finding opportunities in diverse fields such as urban planning, sustainable development, environmental design, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
