The Building Engineering master's program enables students focused on building performance, heritage preservation, and fire safety engineering to deepen their expertise in the field while developing specialized competencies to meet growing industry needs across both private and public sectors.
Carleton's building engineering alumni have secured prominent roles in leading engineering firms as building science professionals, energy analysts, sustainability advisors, heritage structure rehabilitation specialists, digital modeling experts, and fire safety engineers. Many graduates also serve in public sector roles, including positions with federal agencies like the National Research Council, Natural Resources Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada, municipal governments (such as Ottawa's city administration), and utility providers (including Hydro Ottawa).

Qualification Requirements

The normal requirement for admission to the M.A.Sc. and M.Eng. in Building Engineering is a bachelor's degree in an engineering or related program, with at least a B+ average. Applicants to the M.A.Sc. are required to include a research proposal statement. IELTS - Overall 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each band). TOEFL iBT - 86 (20 in reading and listening; 22 in speaking and writing) TOEFL PBT - overall score of 580.
