This philosophy celebrates the enduring strength of northern communities and the distinctive charm of northern Ontario's scenery. Situated at the heart of Greater Sudbury's downtown, Laurentian University launched Canada's first new architecture program in over four decades in 2013. The McEwen School of Architecture serves as a living laboratory for innovative teaching methods and multicultural exchange. Architectural education fundamentally enhances our understanding of comprehensive and artistic approaches to shaping our constructed surroundings. While architecture students complete electives on Laurentian's main campus, their Design Studio and core architecture classes occur at the McEwen School downtown. Our diverse faculty and student population—representing French, English, Métis, and Anishinabek cultures—reflects Laurentian's tri-cultural mission. Offering design studios in both official languages, along with collaborations with First Nations and Métis Elders and guests, enriches the educational experience with varied cultural viewpoints.
