This 21-week course trains students to become plumber apprentices. Participants will cultivate essential skills in safety practices, managing time and materials, and using hand and power tools. Hands-on shop projects help students improve their abilities in installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing systems for water supply and drainage in homes, businesses, and industrial facilities.

Graduates of the Foundation program qualify for SkilledTradesBC credit toward Plumber Level 1 apprenticeship and receive 375 work experience hours.

Foundation programs develop in-demand skills that employers value. To advance as an apprentice, you must secure an employer sponsor and register with SkilledTradesBC. For further career growth, KPU offers in-school technical training for Plumbing Apprentice levels 2 through 4 when you're prepared to progress.

Qualification Requirements

In addition to KPU's General university admission requirements, including the vocational-level English Proficiency Requirement, the following program admission requirements apply.

English:
English Studies 12 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
Literary Studies 12 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
English First Peoples 12 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
Composition 12 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
Creative Writing 12 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
KPU's Vocational Trades English Reading Assessment with a minimum score of 80%.
Mathematics:
Any Math 11 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent), or
KPU's Vocational Trades Mathematics Assessment with a minimum score of 55%.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test: overall band of 6.5 or higher, with a minimum 6.0 in each band, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): iBT 88 or higher, with no sub score less than 20, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
Duolingo English Test: Score of 110 or higher, taken within the last two years from the term of admission.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Score of 70 or higher with no sub score less than 60, taken within the last two years from the term of admission
