Gain the skills to work with vulnerable youth through Lakeland's child and youth care counsellor diploma program.
This program equips you to assist young people and their families, with accreditation from Canada's Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board (CYCEAB).
You'll acquire crucial competencies including:
observation, documentation and evaluation techniques for case management
establishing therapeutic connections
assisting youth with behavioral or educational challenges
facilitating family support strategies
identifying signs of abuse and substance dependency
fostering resilience
working with diverse youth populations in various environments

High school diploma with a minimum of:
65% in English 30-1 or 80% in English 30-2

a grade of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2 (final blended grade including diploma or provincial exam mark) or Canadian equivalent
a grade of B or better in an O-level, GCSE, or IGCSE English Language or Literature course
a grade of B+ or better in 6 credit transferable university-level English Language and Literature course completed at a recognized English language institution
Successfully complete an English language program, with a minimum score at one of our approved partner schools.
Successfully achieve an acceptable score within the past two years on an English language evaluation test. Tests must have been taken within two years of the start date of the program.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - minimum score of 6.0 overall with at least 6.0 on each band score on the Academic test for all programs.
There is no pass or fail, instead you are rated on a 9-band scale for listening, reading, writing and speaking. A Band 6 rating is called a competent user.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - You need a minimum 78 score on the internet-based test (iBT) exam and a minimum score of 19 in each of the four tested areas.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) - Lakeland College requires a PTE Academic minimum score of 53 with no communication skill score lower than 50.
Duolingo - Our standard acceptance score is 100 overall with no sub-score below 95.
