The thesis-focused graduate program adopts an interdisciplinary method, emphasizing the scientific examination of human performance. The curriculum revolves around eight core disciplines: adapted physical activity, biomechanics, sports medicine and rehabilitation, exercise physiology, motor control and learning, physical activity psychology, sociocultural aspects, and health promotion.
Students select a specialized track that allows concentrated study in one or more of these kinesiology domains. The program permits enrollment in elective courses beyond its core offerings. Qualified candidates at Lakehead University can pursue a Master of Science in Kinesiology.
Students may choose between two program structures:
Thesis-oriented Master's (2 years)
Course-focused Master's (16 months)
The Gerontology Program partners with five departments, including Kinesiology, delivering a cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary educational approach. Participants gain access to diverse resources and collaborate across related fields. The program examines gerontological research and theory, with thesis or major projects in partner departments maintaining a gerontology emphasis.
