The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic interests. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching and research. The program features two specialized tracks: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a forward-thinking approach, enabling you to complete your Master's degree with specialized concentrations in Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), or Social Justice Education (SJE). These options can also be combined with a Gender and Women's Studies specialization.
Through the Educational Studies track, you can obtain your Master's while exploring educational research, theory, and practice across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Our MEd program adapts to working professionals' schedules, offering Thesis, Portfolio, or Course completion paths for both tracks. These flexible study options accommodate various interests and are available for full-time or part-time enrollment. The faculty also houses two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and publishes the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
Our Gerontology Program works closely with the Faculty of Education to deliver an interdisciplinary learning approach. Students benefit from diverse resources and collaborative opportunities across related fields. The program examines Gerontology research and theory, with applicable thesis or portfolio work completed through the partner department while maintaining a gerontological focus.
