Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching and research. The program features two primary focus areas: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a progressive approach to graduate studies, enabling you to complete your Master's degree with specialized concentrations in: Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), Social Justice Education (SJE), with options to combine these with Gender and Women's Studies.
The Educational Studies track presents opportunities to explore educational research, theory, and practice across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Our MEd program adapts to working professionals' schedules through multiple completion pathways including Thesis, Portfolio, or Course-based options. Both study areas support varied academic interests and offer full-time or flexible study schedules. The faculty hosts two Canada Research Chairs (focusing on Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), along with the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
Educational Studies encompasses comprehensive examination of teaching methodologies, theories, and applications across formal, alternative, and community-based learning environments. This vibrant discipline explores diverse aspects including educational sociology, philosophy, psychology, legal frameworks, policy development, leadership strategies, evaluation methods, and subject-specific curricula such as mathematics, sciences, literacy, and social sciences.
