The Master of Education in Language & Literacies Education explores key issues concerning how literacies intersect with language, and how language functions within various literacy contexts across different communities, societies, formal educational settings, and informal learning environments.
The program's focus spans several areas within applied linguistics and literacy studies, including: The acquisition, teaching, and application of first and additional languages in varied contexts, The design, implementation, and evaluation of curricula for developing first and additional language competencies along with K-12 literacy skills, The cultivation of bilingual, multilingual, and translinguistic capabilities, The formulation and analysis of language and literacy education policies, Teaching approaches focused on fostering multiliteracies, covering early literacy, adolescent reading and writing skills, oral language development, and integrating children's literature across subjects, Equity considerations surrounding plurilingualism and cultural/linguistic diversity, and The educational consequences of language and literacy permeating all learning aspects in linguistically diverse environments.
An appropriate bachelor's degree from a recognized university, with the equivalent of a University of Toronto mid-B or better in the final year.
Ordinarily, applicants should have teacher certification and at least one year of relevant successful professional experience prior to applying.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required score: 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.
Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) Including Writing and Speaking Sections: Overall score: 93; Writing: 22; Speaking: 22
Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online: Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE): Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English: Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
