The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic pursuits. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching and research. The program features two primary focus areas: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway presents a forward-thinking approach to graduate studies, enabling you to obtain your Master's degree with specialized concentrations in Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), or Social Justice Education (SJE). These options can also be paired with a specialization in Gender and Women's Studies.
Through the Educational Studies track, you can complete your Master's while exploring educational research, theory, and practice across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Designed for working professionals, our MEd program offers adaptable completion paths including Thesis, Portfolio, or Course-based options. Both fields support diverse academic interests and are available for full-time or part-time enrollment. The faculty also houses two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and publishes the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
