The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic interests. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching and research. The program features two primary focus areas: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a progressive approach to graduate studies, enabling you to complete your Master's degree with specialized concentrations in Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), or Social Justice Education (SJE). These specializations can also be combined with Gender and Women's Studies.
The Educational Studies pathway allows you to obtain your Master's degree while exploring educational research, theory, and practice across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Our MEd program adapts to working professionals' schedules, offering Thesis, Portfolio, or Course completion options for both fields. These programs support various academic interests and are available for both full-time and flexible study schedules. Our faculty proudly hosts two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and publishes the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
The Educational Studies field encompasses comprehensive research, theoretical frameworks, and practical applications across formal, non-formal, and informal educational settings. This vibrant discipline explores diverse areas including educational sociology, philosophy, psychology, legal studies, policy development, leadership, assessment methodologies, and curriculum subjects ranging from mathematics and sciences to language arts and social studies.
