The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic pursuits. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching practices and scholarly research. The program features two specialized tracks: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway presents a forward-thinking curriculum enabling you to obtain your Master's degree with optional concentrations in: Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), Social Justice Education (SJE), with the possibility to combine any of these with Gender and Women's Studies.
The Educational Studies track allows candidates to complete their Master's while exploring pedagogical research, theoretical frameworks, and practical applications across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Designed for working educators, our MEd program offers adaptable completion paths through Thesis, Portfolio, or Course-based options. Both program tracks support diverse academic interests and accommodate either full-time or flexible study schedules. Our faculty proudly hosts two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), along with the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
