Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching and research. The program features two primary concentrations: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a forward-thinking approach, enabling you to earn your Master's degree with specialized options including Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), Social Justice Education (SJE), with the possibility of combining any of these with Gender and Women's Studies.
The Educational Studies concentration allows you to obtain your Master's while exploring pedagogical research, theory, and application across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Designed for working professionals, our MEd program offers adaptable completion paths through Thesis, Portfolio, or Course-based options. Both concentrations support varied academic interests and are available for full-time or part-time study. Our faculty proudly hosts two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and publishes the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
Social Justice Education (SJE) examines theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, and practical strategies to confront systemic inequities within and beyond educational institutions, incorporating diverse approaches such as anti-racist education, economic justice pedagogy, body-positive education, feminist teaching methods, compassionate learning, Indigenous perspectives, inclusive practices, and LGBTQ+ inclusive education.
