The Department of Educational Studies offers multiple MEd program options. These graduate programs can be pursued either full-time (completed in two years) or part-time (with a more flexible timeline), providing strong foundations for professional development.
EDST's MEd candidates choose from these specialized programs:
Adult Learning and Education (ALE)
Adult Learning and Global Change (ALGC) - online delivery
Educational Administration and Leadership (EDAL) - available on-campus or through cohort models
Higher Education (HIED)
Society, Culture and Politics in Education (SCPE)
Students may also pursue a TsKel concentration within the ALE, EDAL, HIED, or SCPE programs. Additionally, we provide a collaborative MEd in Curriculum and Leadership (CULE), jointly administered by the Educational Administration and Leadership Program (EDAL) and the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy (EDCP).
Applicants for a master's degree program must hold the academic equivalent of a four-year bachelor's degree from UBC with: a minimum overall average in the B+ grade range (76-79% at UBC) in third-year level and above courses; or academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study; or applicants who have a four-year bachelor's degree, or its academic equivalent, which does not meet the requirements stated above, but who have had significant formal training and relevant professional experience to offset such deficiencies, may be granted admission on the recommendation of the appropriate graduate program or faculty and approval of the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies.
