The Sociology Department provides an advanced degree program focused on deepening students' understanding of their social environments while strengthening their capacity for autonomous, analytical thinking about key societal challenges. Our curriculum now includes a course-based graduate option in Sociology, available both in the general program and within our three specialized tracks. After completing their initial semester, students may apply to transition into the thesis stream.
A Sociology degree serves as excellent preparation for various professions including social work, legal practice, media, and healthcare. Graduates frequently pursue careers in education or vocational guidance, while others find opportunities in public administration, rehabilitation services, nonprofit organizations, and corporate sectors. Our program's strong emphasis on research methodology makes sociology graduates particularly valuable for data collection and analysis roles across diverse industries. The discipline examines the full spectrum of human interactions - from personal connections and institutional operations to societal phenomena with national and international impact. Sociologists explore critical topics such as healthcare systems, family structures, criminal behavior, technological advancements, mass media, societal transformation, economic systems, gender studies, educational institutions, class disparities, and various forms of bias.
The Social Justice Studies specialization equips students to undertake innovative research on equity issues using sociological frameworks. Participants can examine any social justice-related subject by applying relevant sociological theories and investigative approaches. While maintaining rigorous sociological training, the program also supports cross-disciplinary collaboration, public outreach, and grassroots advocacy when applicable.
