Since 1967, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology has provided a Master's program in Sociology, consistently drawing top-tier graduate students nationally and internationally. Our MA program features both thesis and course-based pathways, enabling students to select the approach that aligns with their academic and professional goals.
The Crime and Social Control specialization explores sociological perspectives on how society defines, measures, explains, and responds to criminal behavior. Students in this concentration will examine academic research covering diverse subjects such as: online harassment, victim studies, legal approaches to homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse policies, campus safety, feminist and critical criminology theories, alternative justice systems, risk sociology, law enforcement practices, societal perceptions of crime, prisoner rehabilitation, juvenile justice systems, miscarriages of justice, and developmental criminology.
