The Sociology Department provides an advanced degree program focused on expanding students' understanding of their social environments while developing autonomous, analytical thinking about crucial societal matters. Our curriculum now includes a coursework-focused graduate option in Sociology, available both in the general program and within our three specialized tracks. After completing their initial semester, students can apply to transition into the thesis-based program.
A Sociology degree serves as excellent preparation for various professions including social services, legal fields, media, and healthcare. Graduates frequently pursue careers in education or vocational guidance, while others find opportunities in public administration, rehabilitation services, nonprofit organizations, and corporate sectors. With our emphasis on strong research methodologies, sociology graduates are frequently recruited for data collection and analysis roles across diverse industries. The discipline examines all facets of human interaction, from personal connections to organizational structures and broad societal patterns. Sociologists explore numerous critical areas including healthcare systems, family structures, criminal behavior, technological impacts, cultural trends, economic systems, gender studies, educational institutions, social stratification, and various forms of bias and exclusion.
The Social Justice Studies concentration empowers students to undertake innovative research on equity issues using sociological frameworks. Participants can explore any social justice-related subject by applying relevant theoretical perspectives and investigative approaches from sociology. While maintaining rigorous sociological foundations, the program also supports cross-disciplinary collaboration, public outreach, and community involvement when applicable.
