Social Work is a dynamic and impactful profession that drives meaningful transformation across various domains, from shaping social policies to supporting vulnerable populations, offering counseling services, and advocating for societal progress. Lakehead University's School of Social Work offers a comprehensive undergraduate program with a northern perspective, grounded in a holistic approach to social work practice.
Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on field placements in diverse environments such as correctional institutions, mental health facilities, educational settings, and child protection services, fostering essential skills like critical analysis, clear communication, creative problem-solving, and collaborative teamwork. At our Thunder Bay campus, students can specialize in Indigenous Learning or Gender and Women's Studies to expand their knowledge within the discipline. Fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, our program delivers a rigorous and rewarding educational journey that prepares graduates for diverse professional environments.
The One Year program caters to individuals holding an approved bachelor's degree or those who have completed undergraduate degree requirements. Priority admission is given to professionals from social service agencies with relevant degrees, followed by degree holders with limited practical experience in the field.
