Anthropology encompasses the comprehensive, interdisciplinary examination and recording of human life across time. As an Anthropology student, you'll explore diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and bone remains to economic systems and regional speech patterns. Our Anthropology Department features four specialized branches: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Socio-Cultural Anthropology.
The curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory sessions, and fieldwork to deliver balanced training in both theoretical concepts and practical skills. You'll work with exceptional laboratory facilities and anthropological collections that have supported major discoveries and been used by leading experts.
Our internationally recognized faculty conduct cutting-edge research, creating outstanding undergraduate research possibilities. Professors frequently collaborate with students on specialized courses and projects, with many undergraduates presenting their work at national conferences and making early career impacts. We also offer a summer field school for practical experience in archaeological digs, lab work, artifact analysis, and site mapping. While primarily based in Northwestern Ontario, international options exist through our partnerships in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking global learning experiences.
