Geography examines spatial distributions and Earth's surface processes, along with connections between human societies, populations, and natural systems. Our Geography curriculum emphasizes both physical geography—analyzing spatial characteristics of terrain, water bodies, and atmospheric conditions—and human geography, which investigates cultural, political, and economic factors influencing human settlement patterns.
During initial coursework, Geography majors develop broad expertise across diverse geographical topics, exploring: Global population distributions and activity locations. Causes and timing of environmental transformations. Consequences for both natural systems and human communities. Adaptive strategies to address these effects. Advanced studies allow specialization in areas such as: Climate dynamics, Glacial systems, Pedology, Environmental preservation, Disaster studies, Hydrological resource planning, Cultural geography. Our program showcases the discipline's diversity, incorporating technical skills like digital mapping, aerial imagery analysis, environmental sampling, and GIS applications. Students may participate in local fieldwork expeditions or an optional international field research course during their senior year.
