The General Program in Arts breaks free from conventional program constraints by offering students maximum flexibility in course selection. Designed especially for adult learners, this BA (General) can be earned at either the Thunder Bay or Orillia campus, or through online studies.
Our General Arts curriculum is ideal for those seeking a broad-based education with the flexibility to pursue diverse interests. Students can seamlessly transition from General Arts to a specialized major at any stage – particularly advisable for those considering graduate or professional studies later. With fifteen departments under the Faculty of Social Science & Humanities, students can select courses across various fields including: Criminology, English, History, Indigenous Learning, Interdisciplinary Studies, Languages, Media Studies, Music, Northern Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Visual Arts, and Women's Studies. These academic disciplines enhance creative thinking, refine communication abilities, strengthen analytical skills, and deliver versatile knowledge applicable across numerous career paths after graduation.

Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD),
or Completion of Grade 12 and the Secondary School Diploma,
A minimum of 6 Grade 12U or M courses, or equivalent, including program specific prerequisite courses,
A minimum 70%* overall final average
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme applicants who achieve their diploma with a total score of at least 24 may be eligible for admission. Three Higher Level subjects must be completed. Prerequisite courses can be presented at either Standard Level or Higher Level. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Some of our competitive programs may require a total score greater than 24.

Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent (For most countries, the same academic preparation as is required for university entrance in that country is required for consideration. Refer to Admission Requirements by Country.)

Minimum Score for Paper Based Test (pBT) when Speaking is present - 550 (no component score less than 50.
