Anthropology offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of human life across time and cultures. As an Anthropology student, you'll examine diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and bone remains to modern economic systems and regional languages. The Department of Anthropology features four specialized branches: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Socio-Cultural Anthropology.
Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory work, and field studies to give you balanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills. You'll work in state-of-the-art labs and access exceptional anthropological collections that have supported major discoveries and been used by leading experts.
Our internationally recognized faculty actively pursue innovative research, creating outstanding undergraduate research possibilities. Many students collaborate with professors on specialized courses and projects, with numerous undergraduates presenting their work at national conferences and making early career impacts. We also offer summer field schools for practical training in archaeological digs, lab techniques, artifact analysis, and site mapping. While most field schools operate in Northwestern Ontario, we provide international opportunities through partnerships in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking unique study experiences.
