Anthropology offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of human life across time and cultures. As an Anthropology student, you'll examine diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and bone remains to modern economic systems and regional languages. The Department of Anthropology features four specialized branches: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Socio-Cultural Anthropology, each offering numerous research avenues.
Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory work, and field studies to deliver balanced training in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. You'll work in state-of-the-art research facilities and access exceptional anthropological collections that have supported major discoveries and been used by leading experts. Our internationally recognized faculty actively pursue innovative research, creating outstanding undergraduate research possibilities where students frequently collaborate on specialized projects. Many undergraduates have showcased their work at national archaeology conferences, gaining early professional recognition.
During summer months, we operate a field school that delivers practical experience in archaeological digs, lab procedures, artifact analysis, and site mapping. While most field schools occur in Northwestern Ontario, we also offer international opportunities through partnerships in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking distinctive study abroad experiences.
