Anthropology explores humanity, examining our origins, evolution, and diverse cultural expressions. This discipline investigates human phenomena through both biological and cultural lenses, adopting a uniquely broad perspective. Distinguished by its comparative and historical methodology, anthropology bridges the natural sciences and humanities. It analyzes societies across time - from isolated communities to advanced civilizations and modern global networks.
Through this comprehensive approach, anthropology seeks to identify universal human traits while explaining cultural variations and social transformations. Given its expansive scope, the field comprises four primary branches: Socio-cultural Anthropology, Evolutionary Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Archaeology. Currently, the University of Toronto Scarborough provides programs focusing on two main areas: Socio-cultural and Evolutionary Anthropology. The curriculum includes select Linguistic Anthropology courses aligned with Socio-cultural studies, along with Archaeology offerings connected to Evolutionary studies.
