The two-year Diploma in Brewing and Brewery Operations immerses students in the scientific, production, and business aspects of craft beer brewing. This program blends theoretical brewing science with practical experience in our advanced 2-hectoliter pilot brewery at the Langley campus. Developed with input from the BC Craft Brewers Guild and an Advisory Committee of local brewing professionals, the curriculum attracts applicants from varied backgrounds who show enthusiasm not just for craft beer, but also for fields like biology, chemistry, engineering, business, technology, and food science.
Brewing requires physical stamina and hands-on work; students must wear proper safety equipment in brewery and lab settings. They'll spend 6-8 hours on their feet in potentially extreme temperatures, wet conditions, or loud spaces, and must be able to lift 25kg or maneuver 75kg. With BC's craft beer industry booming nationwide, graduates can pursue diverse roles such as assistant brewer, brewer, sales representative, operations manager, marketing specialist, or retail associate in microbreweries, brewpubs, or major national/international breweries. The program prepares students for careers across all brewery scales, from artisanal operations to large-scale production facilities.
