The Primary Care Paramedicine program equips you to become a vital member of healthcare teams providing pre-hospital emergency services. Graduates will gain comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology concerning medical and trauma cases. You'll develop skills to conduct thorough patient evaluations, including physical exams and medical histories, while determining and executing proper life-saving interventions. The program also emphasizes clear communication through both verbal reports and written documentation of patient care.

This curriculum covers not just the technical competencies of a Primary Care Paramedic, but also cultivates the confidence to handle diverse scenarios, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and maintain professionalism in both routine and critical situations.
The profession demands both physical and mental resilience, which the program addresses through required completion of the Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (PPAT) and multiple opportunities to develop psychological coping strategies.
The program includes one clinical rotation and two ambulance field placements across Prince Edward Island and potentially other Atlantic provinces. Placement locations cannot be guaranteed, and students may need to travel between provinces or to multiple sites within a region. All associated costs for clinical and field placements - including travel, accommodations, uniforms, and safety equipment - remain the student's responsibility.
