Paramedics enjoy a profession filled with opportunities to assist those in crisis, face regular challenges, and experience thrilling situations. These skilled responders deliver urgent medical attention to community members suffering from injuries or illnesses. As a paramedic, you'll handle diverse emergency calls ranging from medical crises to traumatic incidents, while also maintaining your medical knowledge through continuous education and station responsibilities. Paramedics are often energetic, sociable people who thrive on challenges and variety.
Our program equips you for both the demands and satisfactions of this dynamic profession. You'll receive comprehensive instruction in emergency pre-hospital care, gaining both the expertise to manage medical crises and trauma situations, and the communication skills to interact with patients, emergency personnel, and healthcare professionals. Your education will combine classroom learning, lab work, clinical experience, and field practice to ensure a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on abilities. Developed with input from experienced paramedics and professional organizations, this program gives you the fundamental skills needed to deliver care during emergencies.
In your second year, you'll immerse yourself in actual paramedic work through a 420-hour field placement, working alongside seasoned professionals. The first semester includes 30 hours of ambulance operations training, including practical driving experience to familiarize you with handling large emergency vehicles. Clinical rotations provide supervised patient interaction in structured healthcare environments.
