The Motive Power Technician (Diesel) program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma offering that combines classroom learning with paid co-op opportunities. Participants will develop expertise in compression ignition engines, powertrains, and contemporary heavy-duty equipment systems. The hands-on co-op components ensure graduates enter the workforce with practical experience and confidence.
Skilled diesel technicians remain highly sought-after, and Fanshawe's program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical application through cooperative work placements. The curriculum covers diesel engine mechanics, powertrain systems, and modern heavy-duty technologies. Additionally, students will enhance their communication abilities, develop logical troubleshooting skills, and learn to work independently on professional tasks.
This program opens doors to diverse career paths across multiple industries. The specialized diesel mechanic training qualifies graduates for positions at equipment dealerships and prepares them for Truck and Coach apprenticeship opportunities.
Structured to cultivate well-rounded professionals, the Motive Power Technician (Diesel) program develops the technical, organizational, and managerial competencies demanded by the heavy-duty service sector. Through progressive training, students master compression ignition engines, powertrain systems, and related heavy-duty technologies while refining their communication, problem-solving, and independent work capabilities.
