This two-year Ontario College Diploma program in Powerline Technician equips you with essential skills for a successful career in Ontario's powerline industry. The curriculum starts with electrical basics and progresses to cover the design, planning, construction, and upkeep of both overhead and underground power networks.
Throughout the program, you'll gain expertise in:
utilizing AutoCAD for designing electrical power systems (both overhead and underground)
electrical equipment and measurement techniques
urban lighting and communication networks
recognizing, managing, and preventing workplace safety risks
lifting, securing, and stabilizing techniques
addressing design challenges in power transmission and distribution networks
protective relays and fault management in power distribution systems
From the second semester onward, you'll dedicate one day each week at Hydro Ottawa's Bank Street facility, where you'll develop practical skills like pole climbing and rigging that will serve you throughout your professional journey.
