This one-year Veterinary Assistant certification provides comprehensive training in the essential skills needed to support veterinary professionals in delivering top-quality animal care. Students develop a solid understanding of animal health and welfare, equipping them for success in clinical environments. Veterinary Assistants collaborate directly with Veterinarians and Technicians to provide care for diverse animal species. The program prepares graduates for various animal care environments, including work with household pets, exotic species, and livestock. As crucial members of veterinary teams, Veterinary Assistants handle both animal care duties and administrative tasks. The curriculum combines in-depth classroom instruction with practical laboratory training, both on-campus and at external facilities. After completing coursework, students undertake a field placement to gain valuable real-world experience. While emphasizing companion animals, the program also covers specialized care for exotic species, wildlife, lab animals, and farm animals, creating opportunities for exciting career paths in multiple settings.
Graduates may qualify for advanced standing in Fanshawe's Veterinary Technician Diploma program and similar programs at other Canadian colleges.
