Our department brings together diverse disciplines, fosters comparative analysis, and emphasizes critical thinking. Our graduate programs maintain an intimate, collaborative environment with selective admissions. We take great pride in the exceptional faculty mentorship provided to our graduate students. MA graduates from our program consistently secure positions in prestigious PhD programs nationwide and abroad, with many receiving significant fellowships for their doctoral research. Alumni have also pursued successful careers in policymaking, legal professions, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions.
Both Sociology and Social Anthropology programs require completion of five credits, combining coursework with a thesis component. Students may complete their Master's degree either through an intensive 12-month full-time track or a more flexible part-time option (with identical degree requirements for both paths).
Ambitious full-time students can realistically achieve their MA within 12 months, particularly when selecting thesis projects that utilize existing public-domain texts or datasets, thus avoiding the need for fieldwork data collection and ethics approvals. Those undertaking original research or fieldwork typically require 18 to 24 months to complete their degree requirements.
