Confederation College's two-year Instrumentation Engineering Technician – Process Automation and Control program delivers comprehensive theoretical knowledge and hands-on training in a state-of-the-art lab that replicates industrial control systems. The curriculum covers fundamental electrical principles, digital systems, electronics, computer technology, industrial schematics, physics, software applications, and technical communications. Our advanced lab environment features operational processes using both pneumatic systems and contemporary microprocessor-based equipment including PLCs, Distributed Control Systems, and field networks.
The Instrumentation Engineering Technician - Process Automation program at Confederation College is carefully structured to equip students for the evolving demands of instrumentation engineering and automation. With a strong focus on practical application, the program incorporates an Optional Co-op element that forms a vital part of our hands-on learning philosophy.
Optional Co-op: This beneficial feature enables students to participate in paid work experiences, creating a pathway to professional employment. Scheduled outside academic periods, these co-op positions let students implement classroom and laboratory knowledge in actual work environments. The practical exposure gained during these placements not only strengthens technical competencies but also promotes career growth, professional connections, and a better grasp of industry standards and developments.
