The Master of Arts in Social and Cultural Anthropology empowers students to explore diverse subjects such as gender studies, colonial history, media and technology, linguistics, environmental policy, and sensory perception. For the thesis track, students design personalized fieldwork projects, allowing them to select research topics and communities in collaboration with their advisor. Alternatively, students may opt for a non-thesis program featuring a year-long intensive study of anthropological literature through essay writing. This path is ideal for those focusing on coursework or seeking accelerated admission to PhD programs. Our globally engaged faculty specialize in various research areas and oversee local initiatives like the Centre for Sensory Studies and the Concordia Ethnography Lab.
