The MA program is structured to be finished in six consecutive terms (fall-spring-summer, fall-spring-summer), equivalent to two academic years. Core courses are typically finished during the initial two terms of enrollment and must be completed by the third term at the latest. To graduate, students must complete at least 30 credit hours and produce an original thesis based on independent research.

Our specific departmental requirements are:

3.25 CGPA (Academic transcript to be mailed to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office)
A bachelor's degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution
While you do not need a sociology or anthropology degree to apply, you must have a strong background in both advanced sociological and anthropological theories and methodologies to be considered for admission

IELTS - The University minimum requirements for English proficiency is an overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section.
TOEFL - The University minimum requirement for the internet-based exam is a total score of 93, with a minimum score of 20 in each category. For the paper-based TOEFL test, the University normally requires a score of 580, with TWE 5. Pearson Academic (PTE) - Overall 65 minimum 60 in all of their sections.
