The Electrical and Computer Engineering PhD represents the most advanced degree our department offers, delivering specialized knowledge in a specific field via rigorous research. Candidates enhance their theoretical understanding and hands-on skills through focused coursework and a dissertation project guided by faculty advisors. This doctoral program aims to cultivate exceptional scholars capable of advancing research, technological progress, and academic contributions. We particularly support industry-relevant research initiatives when applicable.
To be considered for admission on a full-time basis, applicants normally must hold a master’s degree or equivalent with high standing in engineering or computer science, or in a cognate discipline. Holders of bachelor’s degree will, in general, be considered for admission to a master’s program only. After completion of a minimum of two terms of full-time study, they may, upon application, be considered by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee for admission to a PhD program.
