The Communication PhD program offers graduate-level education specializing in media and cultural studies. Scholars in this field explore diverse research questions spanning both humanities and social sciences. Our faculty comprises accomplished researchers, creative practitioners, and media professionals with strong graduate mentoring backgrounds, whose work includes critically acclaimed publications in top-tier journals and groundbreaking projects in digital media and alternative formats. The curriculum covers diverse specializations including gaming culture, identity representation in media, digital technologies, feminist media theory, and practice-based research. Students gain hands-on experience through multiple research initiatives while taking advantage of Montreal's vibrant media arts scene.
GPA Requirement. The academic progress of students is monitored on a periodic basis. To be permitted to continue in the program, students must obtain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 based on a minimum of 12 credits. Students whose GPA falls below 3.00 are considered to be on academic probation during the following review period. Students whose GPA falls below 3.00 for two consecutive review periods are withdrawn from the program.
